Shaping the future now: Lusatian projects at the SME Innovation Day 2025

On June 5, 2025, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) is hosting the SME Innovation Day in Berlin-Pankow. Under the motto “Shaping the future now”, around 300 exhibitors from all over Germany will show how SMEs are helping to shape technological and social change with innovative solutions.

Partners from the international ZIM innovation network “Environmental Technology and Soil Recultivation” are taking part in the Innovation Day.
For example, the companies Mechakon (Bad Liebenwerda, Elbe-Elster-Land) and NagolaRe (Jänschwalde, LK Spree-Neiße) are presenting a machine for producing a soil mat and the possible applications for greening areas.
With the Cattle Observer project, the company Cecon (Berlin) is presenting the possibility of animal monitoring of cattle. The practical partner here is Bauern AG Neißetal (near Forst, LK Spree-Neiße).

The network is an association of companies, research institutions and development partners who work together to develop innovative solutions for ecological challenges. The focus is on technologies and processes for the sustainable use, remediation and greening of soils – especially in former mining and industrial areas. The network facilitates practical research and interdisciplinary cooperation. It supports its members in the development of ideas, technical implementation and the market launch of new products – such as the soil mat for recultivation, solutions for soil analysis and herd management.

The network supports the STARK program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK)
LuTraCo is an initiative of T+I Technologie- und InnovationsConsult GmbH, which actively supports structural change in Lusatia as part of STARK. The aim is to realign the region economically and ecologically following the phase-out of lignite. LuTraCo specifically supports the development, application and market launch of innovative and sustainable product and process solutions, in particular to strengthen circular processes in the agricultural, water and food industries.

Through interdisciplinary exchange, workshops, excursions and international cooperation, new value chains and innovation projects are created that position Lusatia as a model region for sustainable transformation.
